Impact

Differ Community Power installs and operates high-quality distributed renewable energy solutions designed to provide extremely high reliability for the delivery of critical community services such as healthcare, education and humanitarian assistance. Our solutions and the services they enable create lasting social and economic improvement for underserved communities.

We strive to maximize impact per invested dollar, closely integrating our solutions with their application and setting,  and applying cradle to grave design principles to minimise possible negative impacts.

Sustainable Development Goals

We are proud to contribute to SDG13 (climate) and SDG7 (clean energy) directly with the installation and operation of our systems, and indirectly to improved health services (SDG3), improved education (SDG4) and improved economic activities (SDG8) – to mention a few – that are all enabled by our systems.

We have conducted impact analysis at many of the sites installed in Malawi and the Philippines to empirically document our positive contributions. The studies concluded that there are clearly positive effects of having access to reliable energy services. The quality of the health services improves with the availability of improved illumination and medical equipment, making patients safer. Facility personnel also have higher work satisfaction, improving retention.

Beneficiary Statement

"Previously we used to buy batteries for the torches at the facility with our own money just to make sure there was lighting during emergencies at night. Since the installation of power at the facility, the number of pregnant women coming for deliveries has increased from average 8 clients per month to 20. Moreover, the main economic activity around our health facility is saw milling and wood works, and there are high number of accidents which all come to the clinic mostly at night. Suturing such deep cuts was difficult before without enough lighting.

I am able to watch TV at home after work as I wind down the long shifts, charge my mobile gadgets and stay connected with my family and the rest of the world. Moreover, I can keep essential food in my fridge at home and reduce the need to travel frequently to Mzimba town to buy perishable food items. This has motivated me and gives me more focus on my work."

The solar power has improved service delivery and quality of health service provided to the community.
